According to the wnba.com, the NY Liberty has acquired two time All Star guard Shoni Schimmel from the Atlanta Dream. In return ATL will receive the Liberty’s 2017 second round pick. Schimmel is a very talented player who has the ability to knock down the long ball and can distribute the rock. Last year she finished 10th in league for 3pt shooting and 9th in the league for her Assist Pct.
“Shoni Schimmel has demonstrated she can shine on a big stage, and I am confident that with the leadership on our coaching staff and on our team she will thrive as a member of the New York Liberty playing at Madison Square Garden.
Shoni is good fit for our style of play. Her long-range shooting will really allow us to spread the floor on the offensive end. She takes pride in giving back to the community and she shares the same core values we look for in every member of our team.”
While Schimmel had a very decent Rookie season, her 2nd season had a ruff start. Shoni showed up to Training Camp out of shape. According to sources, she also showed up to this year’s Training Camp out of shape. The Dream’s Head Coach Michael Cooper said Conditioning had nothing to fo with with the trade.
“Way we are being structured and want go, anybody could have been traded.”
